Mothers as a Resilience Test for the Labor Market
Spoiler alert: This is not a report about mothers. It is a report about the future of the labor market and what each of us needs to know to prepare for this new reality! Download the report and join those who are preparing for tomorrow today. In this publication, we analyze the situation of mothers in the labor market within the context of wider trends, treating their experiences as a key stress test for the modern economy in the face of demographic and technological shifts.
Why was the report created?
We are living in an era where caregiving is no longer invisible background noise but a key indicator of a modern economy. Today, mothers serve as a “test group” for the labor market—a litmus test for the system. If the labor market fails to sustain the professional activity of mothers, it will also fail in the face of other challenges, such as impending depopulation, an aging society, and rapid technological acceleration. We need a paradigm shift: moving away from the “full availability” model toward a system that recognizes caregiving as a shared infrastructure that sustains the economy.

OMGKRK contribution:
As part of the project team, we facilitated the successful execution of two launch events in Warsaw and Kraków. These forums served as strategic platforms for employers to explore the integration of professional and personal life, underscoring that caregiving infrastructure is a fundamental component of a resilient, modern economy.
Through expert-led discussions, we addressed the systemic challenges of the “motherhood penalty,” identifying actionable strategies to mitigate professional exclusion and ensure workforce continuity. By benchmarking international best practices, the events provided organizational leaders with the insights necessary to design more flexible, sustainable career architectures.
This initiative successfully united key stakeholders to proactively tackle emerging challenges, including demographic shifts and technological disruption. Ultimately, these sessions established a framework for cultivating high-productivity work environments that prioritize long-term talent retention and employee well-being.
