What if we told you that in 20 years we will be able to connect human cortex to the cloud? Or that in 15 years artificial intelligence can match and extend human intelligence? Sounds concerning? Not necessarily! During last #OMGKRK Academy Izabela Bartnicka from Digital University proved that we can be prepared and she equipped us with tools to successfully navigate in a the future!

How To Survive The Digital Revolution?

Shall we start with a quote? Sir Martin Sorrell (Founder and CEO of WPP) said ‘Technology will never again change as slowly as it does today.’ Though artificial intelligence grows faster than we suspected few years back and in just 2 years there will be flying cars, we still haven’t started preparing for the digital future. Let’s look back to just 10 years ago – mobile phones were so expensive that not many people had them, laptops were emerging. Nowadays we all have a smartphone in our pocket, tablet in our bag and laptop to work on.

The way we live and work will change completely in the next few years.

How can we get prepared? There are four fields we should improve on a daily basis:

• creativity
• critical thinking
• love
• empathy

Those fields might sound strange, but if Bill Gates learns about empathy we should all consider to do it too! Let’s begin with creativity – how we can boost it? The easiest way is to experiment even if you don’t know how. Critical thinking is a little bit more complicated. There are few steps to improve this skill – firstly learn to evaluate what you hear. After which you should do your research, ask questions, break it down. Never assume you’re right and try to keep it simple. After a while you will master critical thinking and it’ll take you less time. Why we should learn about love? We live in society, other people should be at the highest importance for people. At the end we should focus to be empathetic – put aside your viewpoint, and try to see things from the other person’s point of view.

Iza finished her amazing speech with pointing out that we should learn at least 100 days per year to be prepared. How? Read, explore new areas and experiment.

The Future Of Data Processing

Second on stage presenting was Wojciech Daniło (CEO of Luna). Why data is so important to successfully navigate in the future? A lot of companies struggle to extract insights from data. They cannot correctly read statistics and information from data and in the end make bad decisions and lose money.

Domain experts are data illiterate. Their skills are focused on domain expertise with less skills in statistical knowledge and coding. Data scientists are on the other end of spectrum – they have a statistical knowledge and coding skills but lack domain expertise. Qualified data scientists are unicorns. As you may notice between domain and data experts is huge communication gap. There is a trouble explaining data to domain experts and vice versa.

Making Data Processing Less Technical

So far nobody knows how to do it right. Does Wojciech figured it out? He created Luna. Luna is a data processing and visualization environment built on a principle that people need an immediate connection to what they are building. It provides an ever-growing library of highly tailored, domain specific components and an extensible framework for building new ones. Luna is both user friendly and accessible.

Both speeches gave us insights to how will the future look and provided us tools needed to flourishingly maneuver in the future. After prelections we stayed until late evening hours to network with incredible participants. Our guests stayed with us and gave a chance to talk with them face to face, share ideas and asked mind-boggling questions.
